Logarithms on the Land
Logarithms are very important in the world around us. The unusual space Arheo Park Plocnik - we are exploring the land's values. First will be the use of logarithms in chemistry, we will define the pH value, learn how to measure the pH value of the land. It will be the factors that affect the change of pH value, and then talk about plants that can be grown on the land sufficient acidity. There will be words and about the influence of pH values on health.
The second part of the event is scheduled to talk about geology and pH values. How pH affects the formation of courts on some rocks.
The third part will be devoted to archaeology and reply how archaeologists are doing research on layers of Earth.
For this event, it is envisaged that three lecturers take part: math teacher, an archaeologist and geologist. Logarithms are not difficult!

Common logarithms led to a revolution (or evolution) not only in mathematics, but in science in general. Which is why I dedicate special attention to application of logarithms in the world around us.
Our research logarithms we've done in an unusual ambience Arheo Park Plocnik.

Host
of arheo park, archaeologist Julka Kuzmanovic Cvetkovic presented
by to the students the archaeological site vincan's culture, showed found remains of
pottery and specimens of the disorder, and explained that the site Plocnik found copper blade and stone axe, which is estimated to have
old 7,500 year, as confirmed by the fact that the Plocnik first place
that manufactured metal tools and tools in prehistoric times. Findings
from the first decade of the 21st. century suggests that the word about
the oldest metallurgical center in the world.In
an interview, students learn what it looks like the process of
archaeological researches. The students had the opportunity to find out
which methods are used to determine the age of archaeological findings,
and particular attention is paid to the methods of datitanja radioactive
carbon C14.
Math teacher, Sladjana Trajkovic spoke students about the importance of logarithmic pH values.
pH value is the size, its scale is not arbitrary. Mary is based on the activities of the hydrogen ions in solution (H +) and thus determines whether a given solution acidic or basic character. For comparison is used a logarithmic pH scale that includes values from 0 to 14.

Land impacts on plants as much as external factors. A lot can be done to improve the quality of the land, but most of all, the quality will depend on the texture and structure of soil. Soil type and texture depend on location and geological characteristics of the area while the structure is determined by the previous production, or the way the land was maintained in the past. And texture and structure affect the chemical composition of soil.
Land is first and basic condition for achieving a high and secure yields in each crop production, knowledge of the characteristics of soil helps us to efficiently maintain and iskoristitimo in the best way. The fertility of soil is not just a matter of quantity of nutrients it contains already the sum of characteristics that are essential for plant growth.
In order to ensure that the crops supplied nutrients from organic matter, which is located in the land, it is necessary to understand the concept of pH value of soil. the pH value describes or detect the relative acidity or alkalinity of your soil and it's very important for the health and growth of plants.
pH of soil significantly influence the positive activity of fungi and bacteria in the soil, and is also essential for the availability of nutrients for plant root crops or root system.

What is the pH of soil?
pH of soil is the numeric value of acidity or alkaline content of soil. Measure the pH value is expressed in logarithmic scale from 0 to 14 , while the value of 7.0 neutral. pH scale used to measure concentration of shape would reactive hydrogen (H +) in solution.

pH value of soil is the result of unterakcije rocks, plants and weather conditions over many years, and varies depending on the climatic and physical conditions. In wet klimatima, which are suitable for the development of dense forests, zemlijšte tends to become acidic, with a pH level of typically between 4.0 and 5.5. Grasslands/pastures are often sour land of 6.0 to 6.5, while in most of the airidnih zone is dominated by alkaline soil with pH value of 7.0 to 7.9.
On the basis of the pH values, lands are divided into five groups:
1. alkaline (pH > in 7.20);
2. neutral (6.51 — 7.20);
3. weak acid (5.51-6.50);
4. sour (4.51 – 5.50) and
5. very acidic (< 4,50).
In the Arheo park Plocnik we specify pH value of the land.
For this experiment we used: distilled water, dry land, pH meter, litmus paper, 3 glass containers, filter.
We put dry land in the glass from Arheo Park Plocnik. The ground shifted and we distilled water. We waited about 30 minutes, then filter through a drain solution that we get. In the other glass dish we are using litmus paper to specify pH solution we get, and then check the result by using a pH meter. We got that the pH value of the land at arheo park Plocnik 7.4..

The process of determining pH reactions litmus paper
Sample plots should be cleaned of twigs and pebbles and in the glass jug dissolve in water destilovanoj. Saline lands need procediti through several layers of gauze or filter. In the filtered solution is then sink the litmus paper which will change color after a few minutes. The resulting color should match the color on a scale that is obtained in the paketiću litmus paper.
The result of the measurements we checked the pH meter. We got that the pH value of Earth 7.4, which shows that is slightly alkaline. We talked about the plants that are on that land can grow and also discussed which plants the Neolithic man could grow

Our
research we continued along the river Toplica. Together with the
geologist and an archaeologist, we analyse what hides the river profile.
Archaeologist explained to us what are the different layers of the
Earth, which is why they are different colors. From one or more layers
we can take out the pieces of clay vessels. We concluded that each layer
of Earth has a different pH value.
The event was organized together with National Museum of Spas from Prokuplje. Was attended by 25 people: students, archaeologist, Geologist, two teachers.
Cooperation between our school with National Museum lasts for several years. Arheo park Plocnik is our unusual classroom outdoors. That is a space where we connect math with archeology, geology, astronomy, chemistry, biology, physics. Often we learn in this space, and we always have a variety of guest lecturers.

Media about this event
This event is recorded by the media in Serbia. A few newspaper articles written, and we were invited to the Radio Belgrade's science show to tell how we studied about logarithms in the land.
